Become a Soccer Referee
Earn money, stay involved in soccer, and give back to the Fairfield community.
Referees must be at least 13 years old to become certified in Connecticut.
Why Become a Referee?
FUSA is always looking for adults and young adults interested in becoming soccer referees. Refereeing is a great way to stay involved in soccer, develop leadership and communication skills, build confidence, and earn extra income while supporting the local soccer community.

Getting Certified
The Connecticut State Referee Program provides training and certification for new referees, as well as annual recertification for returning officials.
To become certified, you must:
- Be at least 13 years old by June 30 of the following registration year
- Complete the required online training modules
- Successfully complete an in-person field session and certification assessment
Once certified, referees are eligible to officiate youth soccer matches throughout Connecticut, including FUSA games.

Refereeing with FUSA
After becoming certified:
- 1 Contact FUSA Referee Assignor Matt Carty at fusagoalie@gmail.com to set up your referee scheduling account.
- 2 Contact the FUSA Treasurer at treasurerfusa@gmail.com to complete payment setup.
Referee Pay
FUSA referees are paid for each match they officiate. Compensation varies by age group, game format, and referee position. Current pay rates will be provided during onboarding.
